(Hunter and his son Emmett)

Tell us a little about your son:
His name is Emmett Huse and he’s 1 year old.

Where are you attending school and what’s your major?
I’m studying Information Systems at Northwest Technical Institute.

What is something that has surprised you about parenthood?
Just how much joy it brings me.

What is one of your favorite parenting moments?
My son’s first steps.

Where do you and Emmett hang out in NWA?
We go to the Randall Tyson Recreational Complex often.

What’s something you wish someone would have told you before having kids?
Get ready for the workout of your life because you’re constantly chasing your child!

What are some of your other hobbies?
I love writing and recording music.

What are your biggest challenges?
Having the time and patience to do everything.

How did you hear about SPSF NWA? 
My father heard about the program through working with an organization called Youth Strategies.

What is one word to describe you?
“Overcomer”.

What are some words you live by or your favorite quote?
Sometimes my greatest enemy is myself.

What do you enjoy most as a parent?
Seeing my son smile is one of the best things in the world to me.

What made you decide to go back to school/ go to school for the first time?
Once my son was born, I realized that I would have to better myself if I wanted to give him the life he deserved.

How did you choose your major? 
I was a part of the Information Technology Academy back in high school, so it only made sense to continue my education based on that experience.

 

How will life be different for you and your family after you graduate?
I will be able to have a more comfortable life for myself and Emmett.

What is an impact (other than financial) that SPSF NWA has made on you?
I’ve been able to communicate with a great team and other scholarship recipients.

What are some of your favorite things that being a part of SPSF NWA has offered you? (events, resources, support, etc)
The Empower Summit was amazing, as well as Jingle Mingle.  I also enjoy the weekly emails that contain tips/study habits and other resources that are applicable to single parents.

What would you like to say to SPSF NWA supporters?
Thank you for giving single parents the opportunity for a better life!

Because of his academic success, Hunter was also just awarded the Forsythe Family Endowed Scholarship.
