We caught up with 2016 University of Arkansas graduate Nancy Grizzle to see how life has changed for her since graduating.

Thanks for chatting with us! Can you tell us about your degree and where you’re currently employed?
I graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree. I am currently employed as a Client Care Representative with BankUnited.

Tell us a little about your daughter.
My daughter, Elizabeth is 17 years old and just graduated from high school. She is attending Campbell University to pursue a degree in nursing.

What has changed most for you and your family now that you are no longer in school?
I can provide a roof over our head, food on the table, and have a good paying job to support my family.

What is the most rewarding thing about having a degree?
My degree is something that no one can ever take away from me. Knowing my daughter saw me walk across the stage and get my degree, she now knows that she can do whatever she puts her mind to.

Who or what kept you motivated during your time as an SPSF NWA scholarship recipient? How did SPSF NWA contribute to that motivation?
My family, SPSF NWA, and my good friend Jill kept me motivated. SPSF NWA not only helped with paying for my education, but when I was down or having a bad time, I always had someone that I could talk to in the office. SPSF NWA was always there for me during my journey.

What is your favorite SPSF NWA memory or activity?
My daughter and I always enjoyed the Naturals’ baseball games before school started, Golftoberfest and Jingle Mingle! I also loved getting to know other single parents and making lifelong friends.

What was the best advice you received in school? How did it help you?
One of my professors told me “no matter what happens—never give up, even if you get told no for a job, keep applying and keep searching.” This advice has stuck with me and every time I am faced with being told “no” or “I can’t do that”—I find a way to make it happen and not give up on what I want.

What would you like to say to SPSF NWA donors/supporters?
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your help and support while I was getting my college education. You not only changed my life, but my daughter’s life as well. She is now going off to college and following her dreams because she was able to watch me do the same. She was able to see me achieve my dreams because of supporters like you!
