Meet scholarship recipient Autumn Kolb and her 2-year-old son William. Autumn is pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice at Northwest Arkansas Community College. She hopes to be a crime scene investigator focusing on forensics. We asked Autumn to tell us more about her journey as an SPSF NWA Scholar.

What made you decide to go back to school/ go to school for the first time?
To make a better life for my son. I want to be able to give him everything he needs.

What is your favorite parenting moment thus far?
William’s smile and hearing him laugh.

What do you find inspiration in?
I find inspiration in helping others and giving back to the community.

What has been your biggest challenge?
Working full time while going to school and raising a 2-year-old. It isn’t easy, but it’s worth it.

How did you choose your major?
I am very good at science and I have always been interested in that field.

What is something you wish someone had told you before having kids?
There are no closed doors in the house anymore…not even the bathroom door. HA!

Other than financially, what impact has SPSF NWA made on your life?
SPSF NWA has provided me with an opportunity to go back to school. They support me and encourage me. They can’t wait to see what I do in the future.

How will life be different for you and William after you graduate?
With a better education, I can provide a better life not only for myself, but for William as well.

What do you enjoy most about being a parent?
When I get home from an 8-hour shift—William comes running to me and follows me around. I love that he misses me and is excited to see me.

Why do you value your education?
I want to show William that education is important and that you can take your life to new places with a proper education.

What is your favorite inspirational quote?
“All our dreams can come true—if we have the courage to pursue them.”—Walt Disney

What would you like to say to SPSF NWA supporters?
Thank you doesn’t seem like enough but thank you! You have changed my life.
